Have you heard about SlideME.org ?
Happy owners of Android-based phones, as well as Android’s fans and supporters, all know about Android Market, this virtual place where you can download any existing application (the exact equivalent of the App Store for the iPhone, or the App World for the BlackBerry). But have you ever heard about SlideME.org? |
What’s that? Another website about how great Android can be? A catalog of applications? A forum for Android developers? Actually it is all of these in the same time, and much more. As they define themselves: an “Android community and applications marketplace”, and “A new model for the emerging Android mobile industry”. |

The idea of the community sounds great: developers often join together in order to use collective intelligence while developing applications, what if final users took part in the process right from this stage? In SlideME, they can test the applications even before downloading the final versions, helping developers by providing feedback or new ideas! |
The marketplace itself also offers something quite unique: there is a real effort to help and promote individual developers, since SlideME doesn’t profit from the downloads – which obviously mean more incomes for the developer. It is also accessible directly from the device, offers secured payment, and presents all the characteristics an application marketplace needs to present. |

Although it is still a quite marginal system, the community already functions well, and more than 250 applications can be acquired on SlideME marketplace. Of course, among these applications, you will find “I´m late”, Latin3G’s first application for Android we launched less than three weeks ago… |

Thanks for mentioning us
Thanks for mentioning us and letting your readers know about what we are doing at SlideME. We've recently released a new version of our SlideME portal and are working hard to address pain points that developers have had with Google's Android Market. For instance, we just introduced a formal review system (with guidelines), as basic comments were too terse to be useful.
We are also rolling out localized versions of our portal to address local communities. Our chief portal architect is from Brazil, so we are planning on starting with a Portuguese version of the portal and then moving to a Spanish (we already support these languages in SAM, our mobile client). We are interested in working with developers to localize their own apps into these regions.
We've also just recently had HTC release SAM on their devices in Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand. We have another big announcement soon. I'll update you guys once I'm able.
Thanks again,
